Winter storm warnings issued in 13 states—snow, ice, dangerous cold & severe flooding expected
Winter storm warnings and advisories are now in effect for 13 states as snow, ice and dangerous travel conditions spread across the Northern Plains, Midwest and Northeast.
The National Weather Service (NWS) has issued a series of winter weather warnings and advisories for incoming winter weather affecting more than a dozen states nationwide. The alerts come on the heels of a bout of extreme winter weather that swept across large portions of the country just last week.
At the lowest level you have a watch. The National Weather Service says a watch is used when the risk of a hazardous weather or hydrologic event has increased significantly, but its occurrence, location or timing is still uncertain.

A winter storm warning is in place for parts of the Upper Peninsula, including western Mackinac County until Tuesday morning. On Monday, Dec. 8, Sault Ste Marie received 7.5 to 9.8 inches of snow in different locations, according to NWS snowfall reports.
